One of my earliest childhood memories is trying to “interrogate” leaves using shoe polish. As a child I was convinced that leaves held secret information that I needed to uncover. Although my methods have changed, that curiosity has stayed with me and continues to influence my art today.

Over the years my connection with nature has deepened through practices such as yoga, meditation and other contemplative traditions. These experiences allow me to observe the natural world with greater sensitivity, and they often inspire the colours, forms and rhythms that appear in my paintings.

My artistic journey began in 1982 when I moved from Iceland to California with my young son and husband. While living there I began studying art more seriously, taking evening classes at the Art Center in Pasadena before continuing my studies at Otis/Parsons College of Art and Design in Los Angeles.

After returning to Iceland and raising my family, I completed my MFA and continued working both as an artist and teacher. Over the years I have had the opportunity to exhibit my work internationally, including exhibitions in the United States, Germany, Spain and Iceland.

My art focuses on capturing the beauty of nature through oil paintings inspired by plant life and the organic structures found in the natural world. As an Icelandic artist working with abstract botanical painting, I explore how colour, movement and layered forms can transform natural elements into expressive contemporary artworks.

My goal is to create nature inspired paintings that bring the vitality of the outdoors into homes and public spaces. Through abstract botanical art I aim to inspire a deeper connection with the environment, allowing viewers to experience the quiet rhythms and subtle energy found in nature.

Each painting develops through layers of oil on canvas, where botanical forms and organic patterns gradually emerge within the composition. These works are intended to evoke a sense of calm, belonging and reflection, while offering a space for personal interpretation.

My vision is that both private and public spaces can become enriched through art inspired by nature – spaces filled with colour, organic movement and the quiet presence of the natural world.
